"A Smell of Thunder" painting is part of the series Imperfection.
12x16 inch Original artwork (1 of 1)

In our continuous search for the perfect, we forget that a very compelling part of life is still with the gorgeous flaws.
Time passes and cracks, missing parts, erosion, and decay creates amazing stories on faces and surfaces.

The 'Imperfection' collection simulates the patterns that unpredictably appear with ageing and consist of ephemeral compositions of disjointed elements that spark memories and emotions.

Through my career as Lighting Designer, I faced always the challenge to highlight and transform objects, surfaces and textures.
My artworks are affected from my long experience in color combination, light dynamics and composition.

The paintings are made with acrylic colors, pure or mixed with plaster and various moulding mediums in complex layers that creates a detailed textured surface.
The final composition is a collage of rough peeled surfaces, colored flakes, scratches, etchings, details of aged textures and torn papers.

Although my inspiration comes from images and materials surrounding us in everyday life this collection has some influences from the traditional Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi.
Wabi-Sabi is a worldview centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. To discover wabi-sabi is to see the singular beauty in something that may first look decrepit and ugly. Through wabi-sabi, we learn to embrace both the glory and the melancholy found in these marks of passing time.
